I was at Halton Sep/Dec 1953, Course 191 instructor LAC Rawlings, who had lost his Cpls tapes for being drunk.
While there I had to train for a senior officers funeral at Bicester, Brook-Popham I think, we learned all the funeral drill with Rifles reversed Etc.

It was very different cooking in Egypt, no 7 or 8 choices of meat there, 3 if they where lucky, but we never did any veg preparation or washing up, just the kitchen floor and benches after every shift.

Hi Derrick, nice to see the lads from the cookhouse get a bit of recognition. I met a few during my time and always could depend on a hot mug of tea when on hight patrol as a fire piquet. Keep it up. Al

Hey up Les,
What a great idea - at long last a bit of recognition for the forgotten few - I do hope there are more who will participate - it was bloody hard work but at least we were kings of our own domain and everybodys mate especially the snow drops who were always ready for a cuppa and a bit of toast. whilst passing through.
At RAF Haraklis we shared the kitchen with the French Army just prior to the Suez invasion - Vino in 5 Gallon Gerry cans livened things up a bit - tasted like sour vinegar though LOL....Happy Days.
Best of luck.

Suzanne Kelleher says...
I am trying to trace A McMillan who acted as best man at my 'in-laws' wedding in 1961. My father in law is FINBAR (PADDY) KELLEHER and the only other information I have is that at the time of the wedding his address was Mottershead Dr. Innsworth Gloucester. Any information would be appreciated.
Hi Suzanne,
sorry with that amount of information I can't help. If you contact me on my E address on the home page I could get more info from your.
Regards.
Les.
Thanks,

Suzanne Kelleher.

Very interesting, hope you have some luck in contacting old mates, I know I have tried to find anyone who served with me at Innsworth and Wilmslow without success,

Hi, are there any ex RAF Cook's out there apart from the one's on here.
I built this site hoping my mate Derrick could get in touch with old mates, but so far nothing. I was a Flight Mechanic Engines for all my time in the R.A.F. 1947 - 49 but am hoping we get many more ex Cooks
joining this site.
I must add, my Wifes Father was a Cook during the second World War, so this site could be
dedicated to him, Sgt George Dicker.
Les Haines Webmaster/Webmanager, of this and other RAF sites. See Links Page.
